Chicago Homeless Memorial Service

December 24, 2015

Our December charity partner is the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, where a quarter of our profits benefit the non-profit. We decided to go the extra mile to those directly affected by homelessness. Earlier this week, we attended the Homeless Memorial Day Service at Old St. Patrick’s  Church located in the West Loop. We passed out gift cards and a mini flower bouquet – tied with the cutest hand-painted illustrations from Carly of Clementine Studios – to previously homeless women, children, and men.

The service started in the banquet hall which was beautifully decorated with strung lights and garlands. There was a buffet of food and dessert – ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, and a layered cake to name a few -and everyone ate while Frosty the Snowman was projected on the wall. As we passed around our flowers, we could see the gratitude of these families with such a simple act. The children especially loved the flowers in their appropriately-sized floral arrangement.

When dinner ended, the crowd moved upstairs to the church for a touching and emotional candlelit vigil. We hope our small gesture brought some light into this often isolated community who have found their way and a place to call home.
