Saving not one, but two lives

November 7, 2016

Our November charity trains qualified, rescued pit bulls to become service dogs, therapy dogs, emotional support dogs, skilled companion dogs, and working dogs for veterans and first responders in need.

Service dogs at Pits for Patriots are trained to improve day-to-day living and comfort, making it easier for clients to go out in public. From opening and closing doors, turning on and off lights, retrieving items, carrying backpacks, and even wearing a harness to alleviate the use of a cane, their dogs are held to the highest standards.

Since being founded in May 2011, the Chicago organization has been greatly involved in the education of canine, veteran, and first responder communities. In addition to educating the public about the pit bull breed, they spread awareness on the needs of our military and public service personnel.

Recipients at Pits for Patriots receives a dog at no cost and all training is funded by contributions and donations, which is why we’re so excited for this partnership. The organization will soon be starting a pilot program for mental health assistant dogs, in which dogs will be trained to assist those with PTSD, anxiety, fear, and depression.
