No Empty Backpacks Day

August 23, 2017

It’s that time of year! Kids are heading back to school and we couldn’t think of a better time to launch our very first Milwaukee charity initiative: #NoEmptyBackpacks. The campaign takes us back to our roots by donating a backpack with school supplies for every bouquet sold.

All August long, our Wisconsin flowers will fund critical resources for Milwaukee Public Schools students in need.

On Thursday, August 17th, our Flowers for Dreams team co-hosted Milwaukee’s weekly 414 Live event with 88Nine Radio Milwaukee. Each week 414 Live showcases local musicians, like up and coming New Age Narcissism, on their studio stage in Walker’s Point. This one was special for many reasons. To promote our bouquets-for-backpacks initiative, we told every attendee we’d give them a free bouquet in exchange for unused school supply donations at the event.

The artists from New Age helped promote with their social media, 88Nine collected supplies all week, Milwaukee Brewing Company chipped in with free beer, our good friends at Stone Creek Coffee helped with coffee and cocktails, and After, an art gallery + magazine located in River West joined for a photo booth. We were even lucky enough to rally local influencers like RivaTreasure, Katherine Clemins, and Flow Johnson to help spread the word.

At the event’s conclusion, we’d talked to nearly 200 guests and collected well over 500 individual school supplies to help fill each of our backpacks for MPS. Now, with one week left in the #NoEmptyBackpacks drive, we’re hoping you at home will consider sending a Wisconsin bouquet to a friend or donating supplies directly at Radio 88Nine’s headquarters. Until then, enjoy these scenes from 414 Live and continue letting your friends know about flowersfordreams.com/milwaukee.
