February Charity: Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly

February 1, 2016

Our February charity, Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly, began in France in 1946 serving elderly Parisians who had lost everything and more in World War II. The motto for the program created in 1946, “flowers before bread” (still theirs today) touches us most dearly because we agree with the organization’s philosophy of the necessity of pleasures in life–including love, dignity, and beauty.

As their website states, their mission is encapsulated in that man does not live by bread alone; it is the human touch that makes life worth living. That’s why they make sure to organize community events, provide transportation, and place volunteers all to relieve loneliness among this group.

This month, we’re spotlighting several couples with cute and intriguing love stories, and we found two Little Brothers members with just that. Featured here is Romana & Pascual Ramos who were married on November 30, 1968; they have been together 48 years. Their love story reminded us all the sentiments Valentine’s Day stands for.
