August Flowers for Namaste

August 2, 2015

For the month of August, a quarter of Flowers for Dreams’s profits go toward Namaste Charter School, a public K-8 school located in the McKinley Park neighborhood. Namaste strives to help underserved children of low-income communities on the south side of Chicago.

Through their groundbreaking approach to education of combining health and wellness, Namaste is able to improve the lives of nearly 500 students every year. The concept is that healthy kids learn better.

Each morning, the students begin with a yoga, meditation, or movement. On top of that, they have 60 minutes of Physical Education and 20 minutes of recess. Even the lunches (and breakfasts!) are planned to be nutritious and healthy. In 2014, Namaste received the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s prestigious Gold Award; only 6 school were award nationwide.

All teachers are certified by the State of Illinois and continue to advance their credentials by attending conferences and workshops throughout the year. There are also support teachers who work with students and varying academic levels.

We at Flowers for Dreams find Namaste’s approach to education innovative and effective and are happy to help the children of underserved communities in southern Chicago. You can help us help them too by simply ordering a bouquet, and we’ll donate a quarter of the profits to Namaste all month long.
